Yorkshire Crush Derbyshire in Convincing County Championship Victory at Chesterfield
On May 13th, Yorkshire secured a dominant win over Derbyshire in their County Championship clash at Chesterfield, triumphing by an innings and 204 runs on the third day of the match.
Pace bowler Ben Coad, returning from a back injury, led the charge for Yorkshire, taking an impressive 6-30, while Sri Lankan seamer Vishwa Fernando chipped in with 4-58 as Derbyshire were bowled out for 171 in their first innings. Skipper David Lloyd top-scored with 57, while Ross Whiteley provided some late fireworks with a 52-run cameo that included five sixes.
Earlier, Yorkshire had declared their first innings at 451-9, thanks to a century from wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Tattersall. This left Derbyshire requiring 375 runs to make Yorkshire bat again, a target they were unable to reach as Coad and Fernando once again tormented the home side, dismissing them for just 171 in their second innings.
“The victory marked the first time Yorkshire had won back-to-back County Championship matches by an innings since June 2015, when they defeated Nottinghamshire and Durham.”
The result also saw Yorkshire secure a maximum points haul, with Tattersall completing his third first-class hundred in the process.
The match was played at the picturesque Chester-le-Street Cricket Ground, home to the Chester-le-Street Cricket Club and a popular venue for county and club cricket in the region. The convincing win will undoubtedly delight Yorkshire’s passionate supporters and bolster their chances of success in the ongoing County Championship season.
