WEST INDIES CRUISE TO SEVEN-WICKET WIN OVER SOUTH AFRICA IN THRILLING T20I CLASH
West Indies delivered a dominant performance to secure a convincing seven-wicket victory over South Africa in the opening T20I match.
Opting to bowl first, West Indies made an impressive start, reducing the visitors to 42 for 5 within the first 8 overs. However, a resilient knock of 76 from Tristan Stubbs, supported by a 44-run contribution from Patrick Kruger, helped South Africa post a respectable total of 174 for 3.
In response, the West Indian openers, Shai Hope and Alick Athanaze, ignited the chase with a blistering 84-run partnership in just 49 deliveries. Athanaze’s quickfire 40 and Hope’s 51 laid the foundation for the run-chase. Nicholas Pooran then took the attack to the opposition, blasting an unbeaten 65 off just 26 balls, including 5 massive sixes, to guide West Indies to a comfortable victory with 13 balls to spare.
The match witnessed several standout performances, with Matthew Forde’s 3 for 27 and Pooran’s fastest T20I fifty off 20 balls being the highlights. South Africa’s debutant Kwena Maphaka also managed to pick up his first international wicket, dismissing West Indian captain Rovman Powell.
Despite the absence of key players, West Indies showcased their depth and dominance, delivering an impressive all-round display to claim the opening T20I against a resilient South African side.
