West Indies’ Late Arrivals Motie and Joseph Set to Join Squad Ahead of Lord’s Test

Fast bowler Shamar Joseph and left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie were unable to link up with the West Indies squad on time for their ongoing warm-up match against the First-Class Counties Select XI in Beckenham due to a cancelled flight from Guyana caused by the impact of Hurricane Beryl in the Caribbean.

It is understood that Motie landed in London later on the first day of the three-day game, while Shamar is expected to join the team on Friday. Despite their absence, the West Indians put on an impressive display, scoring 339 runs in their first innings, led by Kavem Hodge’s century and half-centuries from Alick Athanaze, Kirk McKenzie, and Mikyle Louis.

“It’s always a dream to play that at Lord’s,” said Hodge, who was part of the memorable draw against Australia in Brisbane earlier this year. “Something growing up as a kid that you sit and dream about, you watch a lot of cricket at Lord’s. It’s something I am looking forward to: getting the opportunity to sit and watch the game, play there with the crowd, the prestige, the home of cricket, it’s something that every cricketer aspires to do.”

The West Indies team will be bolstered by the arrival of Shamar Joseph, who made headlines with his stellar performance in the Brisbane Test, and Jayden Seales, who has been impressive in the English county circuit. With Kemar Roach’s recent injury withdrawal, the fast-bowling unit will be led by Alzarri Joseph.

The visitors will be eager to carry the momentum from their spirited display against Australia into the upcoming series against England, as they aim to prove their mettle on the global stage.
