Cricket News: Alzarri Joseph Returns, Shamar Springer Included for England T20I Series
The West Indies cricket team has announced a revised squad for the final three matches of their T20I series against England. Alzarri Joseph has returned from suspension, while star all-rounder Andre Russell has been ruled out due to a left ankle sprain.
Alzarri Joseph, who was handed a two-match ban by Cricket West Indies after leaving the field without permission during the third ODI against England, has been reinstated into the squad. Having apologized publicly and privately to one-day captain Shai Hope, his return was expected and necessary given the team’s current 2-0 deficit in the series.
Seam bowling all-rounder Shamar Springer has been included in the squad, replacing the injured Russell. Springer made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka last month, delivering impressive performances with figures of 1 for 25 and 1 for 24 in his two caps so far.
The West Indies team has struggled to find the right balance with their bowling lineup, with Rovman Powell’s captaincy coming under scrutiny. The inclusion of Springer provides Powell with additional options to work with as the team looks to keep the series alive.
The loss of Russell, who suffered an ankle sprain during the first T20I, was highlighted by the poor performance of debutant Terrance Hinds in the second match. Hinds struggled with both bat and ball, scoring just five runs and conceding 24 runs without a wicket in his two overs.
West Indies T20I squad: Rovman Powell (capt), Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Terrance Hinds, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Brandon King, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Shamar Springer
