Cricket Enthusiasts Praise West Indies’ Remarkable Rise in T20 Rankings
The West Indies’ T20 World Cup 2024 campaign may have come to an end with a defeat to South Africa in Antigua, but their captain Rovman Powell was full of praise for the team’s remarkable progress over the past year.
“If you can take a year to move from number 9 to number 3 in the world, that’s tremendous work,” Powell stated in the post-match presentation ceremony. The team’s climb from the ninth position to the third spot in the global T20 rankings was a testament to their hard work and dedication.
Despite not reaching the semi-finals, Powell acknowledged the significant improvements the team had made.
“We haven’t won the World Cup, but there was a lot of improvement. There’s a lot of buzz around the Caribbean again about West Indies cricket. We have done some very good things over the last 12 months.”
The captain also highlighted the team’s impressive fighting spirit, even in the face of a challenging batting performance against South Africa.
“I think credit has to be given to the boys. I think they fight to the very end,” he said.
The resurgence of West Indies cricket has not gone unnoticed by their passionate fans, who showed their unwavering support throughout the home World Cup.
“For all the venues that we have played, for all the social media likes and stuff that people have given us, we as a team really appreciate it,” Powell expressed.
The captain emphasized that this is just the beginning, and the real work starts now.
“Now is where the work starts. It’s for us to continue to work as a group, still be tight, and hopefully, just hopefully, we can continue to climb the rankings and make the Caribbean people proud.”
With the team’s remarkable progress in the past year and the renewed enthusiasm among their fans, the future looks bright for West Indies cricket. As they continue their journey, the nation’s cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the team’s next chapter of success.
