Warwickshire Suffer First Defeat, but Remain Well-Positioned in Group B

In a thrilling encounter at Rugby School, Yorkshire secured a six-wicket victory over the previously unbeaten Warwickshire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. The win keeps Yorkshire’s qualification hopes alive, while Warwickshire’s first loss of the tournament, though a missed opportunity, still leaves them firmly in contention for a spot in the next round.

Batting first, Warwickshire were restricted to 242 for 9, with only Rob Yates (72) making a significant contribution. Yorkshire’s George Hill was the standout performer, registering impressive figures of 6 for 28, the seventh-best List A figures for the county.

“The defeat was a missed opportunity for Warwickshire, but they remain in a strong position in Group B, with their final group match against Nottinghamshire at Rugby to come.”

The Yorkshire chase was led by a vibrant 60 off 51 balls from Harry Duke, who got the visitors off to a strong start. Despite losing a few wickets in the middle overs, William Luxton and Matthew Revis steadied the innings and eventually guided Yorkshire to a comfortable victory, with 33 balls to spare. Luxton’s unbeaten 105 marked his maiden senior century, while Revis chipped in with a well-crafted 51* to seal the win.

Yorkshire, on the other hand, have kept their Metro Bank One Day Cup qualification hopes alive and will look to build on this momentum when they face Glamorgan next Wednesday.
