Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy Impresses in IPL 2024 but Awaits India Recall
Chennai, June 4, 2024 – Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) star spinner Varun Chakravarthy has become a household name in Indian cricket after his meteoric rise and India debut in 2021. However, his disappointing performance at the T20 World Cup 2021 has kept him out of the national team ever since.
Chakravarthy’s exceptional displays for KKR during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, where he picked up 21 wickets in 15 matches, played a crucial role in the team’s title triumph. The mystery spinner’s ability to bamboozle batters with his variation has long been touted as a unique asset for the Indian team.
“Varun Chakravarthy performs every year, but I remember he was told by a selector to improve his batting and fielding, only then you will be able to make the cut,” – Abhishek Nayar, KKR’s batting coach
According to KKR’s batting coach Abhishek Nayar, a BCCI selector had advised Chakravarthy to focus on improving his batting and fielding skills to enhance his chances of a national team recall.
Despite his consistent performances in the IPL and domestic tournaments, Chakravarthy has not been able to break into the Indian team for the ongoing T20 World Cup. However, his ability to deliver under pressure and thrive in the high-stakes IPL environment may soon earn him another opportunity to don the national colors and showcase his “mysterious spin” on the international stage.
