Thrilling Last-Over Victory for Thunder Against Sunrisers in Charlotte Edwards Cup

It was a nail-biting finish as the Thunder clinched a five-wicket win over the Sunrisers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup at Blackpool. Sophie Ecclestone’s impressive bowling performance and a crucial partnership between Seren Smale and Kate Cross in the final overs sealed the victory for the hosts.

Batting first, the Sunrisers posted a competitive total of 151 for 9, with Lissy Macleod leading the way with a 60-run knock. Ecclestone was the standout bowler for the Thunder, picking up 3 wickets for just 18 runs.

In the run chase, the Thunder made a bright start but lost a couple of quick wickets to find themselves at 43 for 2. However, a fighting partnership between Smale and Katie Mack kept them in the hunt. Despite a few more setbacks, Smale’s unbeaten 39 and some late flourish from Ecclestone and Cross proved crucial as the Thunder chased down the target with three balls to spare.

“It was an exciting finale, with the game going down to the wire. The Thunder’s ability to maintain their composure and deliver under pressure was the difference in the end, with Smale and Cross playing vital roles in securing the thrilling last-over victory.”

The result leaves the Thunder in fifth place, four points behind the fourth-placed Central Sparks, while the Sunrisers, who remain on 8 points, face an uphill task to qualify for the playoffs.
