Cricket Enthusiasts Eagerly Await Team GB’s Debut at 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Scotland have commenced preliminary discussions regarding the formation of men’s and women’s Team GB cricket squads set to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Cricket’s return to the Olympic stage after 128 years has sparked great excitement, with the ICC proposing six-team T20 tournaments for both the women’s and men’s competitions. While qualification details are yet to be finalized, the ICC’s T20I rankings will likely play a crucial role.

As Great Britain will be represented at the Olympics, the possibility of Scottish players, such as Brandon McMullen or Sarah and Kathryn Bryce, joining forces with their English counterparts has emerged. The ECB, as the nominated governing body, is in discussions with Cricket Scotland to ensure active involvement and contribution of players and staff from the Scottish side.

“With the Los Angeles Olympics four years away, it’s very early stages, but we’re talking to Team GB and Cricket Scotland about the next steps we need to take,” an ECB spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo. “Once again Great Britain’s Olympians have captured the national imagination with their exploits in Paris this year, and we look forward to working together to compete when cricket returns to the Olympic stage in 2028.”

The British Olympic Association’s Chief Executive, Andy Anson, expressed confidence in the collaboration between the ECB and Cricket Scotland, drawing parallels with the successful integration of the Four Nations in other sports like golf, rugby, and women’s football.

This exciting development comes amidst England and Wales’ hosting of the Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups in 2026 and 2030, further solidifying cricket’s growing presence on the global stage.
