Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL): Sydney Thunder Sign Promising Allrounder Georgia Voll

On the eve of the 10th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Sydney Thunder have secured a significant coup by signing allrounder Georgia Voll from Brisbane Heat on a three-year deal. The 20-year-old Voll is regarded as one of the most promising batting talents in Australian women’s cricket and has also impressed with her off-spin bowling.

Last WBBL season was a bit of a struggle for Voll with the bat as she slipped down the order, finishing with 206 runs at a strike-rate of 112.56. However, she showcased her all-round capabilities by claiming 4 for 19 in the Challenger final against Perth Scorchers, before Heat ultimately fell to Adelaide Strikers in the final.

“I never expected myself to play for a New South Wales team, to be honest, but after talking to Lisa and the guys down there, I’m super excited for the opportunity, and it’s a really good young group coming through,” she said.

Thunder general manager Trent Copeland echoed the sentiment, stating:

“Georgia has shown since the day she arrived on the scene that she is a special talent with both bat and ball. If you were to pinpoint the next young star to crack the Australian setup, Georgia is it.”

Voll’s departure is part of significant roster changes at Brisbane Heat, who have also lost New Zealand allrounder Amelia Kerr to Sydney Sixers. However, the Heat have secured the services of South African allrounder Nadine de Klerk on a two-year deal and will still boast a formidable top order including the likes of Grace Harris, Georgia Redmayne, and Laura Harris.
