Thrilling WBBL Chase Sees Sydney Thunder Overtake Perth Scorchers at the Top
In a captivating clash at the MCG, Sydney Thunder emerged victorious over Perth Scorchers by seven wickets, reclaiming the top spot in the WBBL standings. The star of the evening was Georgia Voll, whose unbeaten innings of 97 off 56 balls steered Thunder to a dramatic win with one over to spare.
Scorchers Post Formidable Total
The Scorchers had posted a formidable total of 170/5, thanks to a brilliant 97-run knock by veteran opener Beth Mooney. However, Thunder’s sloppy fielding, which saw them drop five catches, allowed Mooney and Sophie Devine (44) to forge a 112-run partnership for the third wicket.
Voll’s Magnificent Response
Voll’s magnificent response overshadowed Mooney’s efforts. The 21-year-old Thunder batter played a career-best innings, smashing 13 fours and a six to match Mooney’s score. Voll’s 64-run stand with Heather Knight proved crucial in the 100-ball cricket live chase.
“I actually watched Lizelle Lee bat the other day and noticed that I’ve been trying to go a little bit hard too early. I sort of just took my time a little bit more and took the strike off Atha [Chamari Athapaththu] at the start there as well,” revealed Voll.
Thunder Reclaim Top Spot
The result marks the first successful run-chase for Thunder this season in the club cricket fantasy league. Voll’s player-of-the-match performance has undoubtedly lifted her side back to the top of the WBBL table.
