Sydney Sixers Maintain Dominance Over Hobart Hurricanes in WBBL Clash
Sydney, November 5th – The Sydney Sixers continued their stranglehold over the Hobart Hurricanes, securing a six-run victory in their recent Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) encounter. Ellyse Perry’s magnificent 86-run knock set the tone for the Sixers, who posted a competitive 155/7 in their 20 overs.
The Sixers’ captain showcased her class, smashing 11 fours and two sixes in her 62-ball innings. Valuable contributions from Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Elyse Villani, Chloe Tryon, and Lauren Smith kept the Hurricanes in the hunt, but they ultimately fell short, finishing on 149/9.
“A really important win for us, I thought the way we just held with the ball at different points was brilliant,” said Ellyse Perry. “And Caoimhe especially played a really important role for us, but then I thought Sophie Ecclestone was on fire tonight, the way we defended that total was awesome.”
Emerging talent Caoimhe Bray and English spinner Sophie Ecclestone played pivotal roles for the Sixers with the ball. Bray, a 15-year-old schoolgirl, continued to impress, removing the key wickets of Nicola Carey and Tryon. Ecclestone, on the other hand, delivered a standout performance, as the Sixers successfully defended their total.
The victory marked the Sixers’ 19th win in 21 encounters against the Hurricanes, who have now lost seven consecutive matches against their Sydney counterparts and remain winless against them in Hobart.
The result keeps the Sixers firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish in the WBBL, while the Hurricanes will look to bounce back and regain their form in the upcoming matches.
