Sussex Sharks Cruise to Commanding Vitality Blast Victory Over Gloucestershire
In a dominant performance, the Sussex Sharks completed a Vitality Blast double over South Group rivals Gloucestershire, winning by a commanding 48-run margin at the Seat Unique Stadium. Led by a brutal display of club cricket batting from Australian Dan Hughes and James Coles, Sussex posted an impressive 208/6 after being put in to bat first.
Hughes top-scored with a blistering 65 off just 37 deliveries, while Coles contributed a vital 54 from 33 balls in a match-winning third-wicket stand of 103. The pair’s fearsome display of big-hitting, featuring eight sixes and 22 fours, proved too much for the Gloucestershire bowlers, with only Josh Shaw and David Payne managing to escape the onslaught.

Gloucestershire’s reply never really threatened the daunting target, with Cameron Bancroft’s 42 the top score in their 160/8. Disciplined bowling from seamers Ollie Robinson, Fynn Hudson-Prentice, and Tymal Mills stifled the home side’s efforts, as Sussex extended their strong start to the Vitality Blast campaign, now sitting on three wins from four matches.
Beaten in their last three outings, the Gloucestershire team finds themselves off the pace in the South Group and under pressure to achieve an unlikely win when they resume their fantasy club cricket season against leaders Surrey at The Oval on Friday.
