Sussex Dominate Leicestershire with All-Round Bowling Display
Sussex, 19th May:
Ollie Robinson and Sean Hunt shared seven wickets between them as Sussex built a healthy lead over Leicestershire on the second day of their County Championship clash at Hove.
Australian batsman Peter Handscomb continued his impressive run of form, scoring 92 runs, but Leicestershire’s innings crumbled after his dismissal, with the visitors losing their last four wickets for just 18 runs. Left-arm seamer Hunt was the chief architect of the collapse, picking up four wickets in quick succession to bowl out Leicestershire for 275.
Sussex opted not to enforce the follow-on, and by the close of play, they had reached 66 for 2, extending their overall lead to 233 runs. Opener Oli Carter and nightwatchman Jack Carson were the two batsmen dismissed in the second innings.
Earlier, Sussex had resumed their first innings on 442, with captain John Simpson remaining unbeaten on 183. Ian Holland was the pick of the Leicestershire bowlers, finishing with 4 for 64.
Robinson then led the way for Sussex with the ball, removing Holland in his opening spell and also claiming the wickets of Lewis Hill and Lewis Goldsworthy. Nathan McAndrew also chipped in with an important scalp, dismissing Rishi Patel.
“The game took a decisive turn when Hunt, after an expensive first spell, returned to the attack and proceeded to dismantle the Leicestershire lower order. He removed Handscomb, Ben Mike, Scott Currie, and Josh Hull in quick succession, finishing with figures of 4 for 70.”
With a substantial lead in hand, Sussex will be aiming to press home their advantage on the third day and secure a victory that would further cement their position at the top of the Division Two table.
