Career-Best Hollman Heroics in Vain as Surrey Crush Middlesex at Lord’s

Surrey’s all-around brilliance proved too much for Middlesex as the visitors cruised to a decisive 56-run victory in their South Group clash at Lord’s. Despite a career-best 5-16 from Middlesex leg-spinner Luke Hollman, Surrey posted a challenging 185-9, thanks to blistering knocks from Tom Curran (48) and Laurie Evans (41).

    The Architect of Middlesex’s Downfall

The architect of Middlesex’s downfall, however, was Surrey seamer Sean Abbott, whose 5-18 included three wickets in successive deliveries to expose the hosts’ fragile batting. Middlesex’s woes at home continued, as the loss marked their 13th consecutive Blast defeat at Lord’s, a run stretching back over two years.

    Turning Point: Hollman’s Heroics

Invited to bat first, Surrey lost Dom Sibley early, but a solid partnership between Dan Lawrence and the aggressive Evans kept the scoreboard ticking. Hollman’s introduction proved the turning point, as the leg-spinner dismissed Evans, captain Ollie Pope, and a trio of others in a magnificent three-over spell.

    Surrey’s Challenging Total

Curran’s counterattacking 48 helped Surrey post a challenging total, but Middlesex’s chase never gathered momentum. Abbott struck early blows, and despite a fighting 35 from Jack Davies, the home side were bowled out for 129-8, well short of their target.

“While Hollman’s exploits with the ball were admirable, it was the all-round brilliance of Surrey that proved decisive, with Abbott’s lethal seam bowling and Curran’s impactful innings steering the visitors to a comfortable victory that took them back to the top of the South Group table.”
