Sunrisers Hyderabad Retain Top Players Ahead of 2025 IPL Auction

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have finalized their list of five capped players to be retained ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. The Hyderabad-based franchise has secured the core group that led them to the IPL 2024 final, with the additions of Travis Head and Nitish Kumar Reddy as their final two retained players.

According to ESPNcricinfo, SRH will retain Heinrich Klaasen (INR 23 crore), Pat Cummins (INR 18 crore), and Abhishek Sharma (INR 14 crore) as the first three capped players. They have now added Travis Head (INR 14 crore) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (INR 6 crore) to complete their quota of five capped retained players.

With these signings, SRH will lose INR 75 crore from their auction purse of INR 120 crore. Cummins will continue to lead the team after guiding them to the playoffs for the first time since 2020, along with the coaching staff led by Daniel Vettori.

The retention of Travis Head, who had a breakthrough season in the IPL 2024 with 567 runs at a strike rate of 191.55, is particularly noteworthy. His impressive performances, including a century in the ODI World Cup final, have more than doubled his value from the INR 6.8 crore that SRH paid for him in the 2024 auction.

Similarly, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s rapid rise has seen his value increase significantly from the INR 20 lakh that SRH paid in 2023. The 21-year-old was the Emerging Player of the Year in IPL 2024, scoring 303 runs at a strike rate of 143 and taking three wickets with his seam bowling.

These retentions underscore SRH’s commitment to building a strong, consistent team that can challenge for the IPL title in the upcoming seasons. The franchise’s focus on club cricket, fantasy club cricket, and the Indian Premier League continues to be a key part of their strategy.
