Caribbean Premier League 2024: St Lucia Kings Sign Heinrich Klaasen and Noor Ahmad
Ahead of the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 player draft, the St Lucia Kings have secured the services of South African batter Heinrich Klaasen and Afghan wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad. This announcement comes as the Kings look to bolster their squad for the upcoming edition of the tournament, which is set to take place from August 30 to October 7.
Faf du Plessis, whose previous stint with the Kings was cut short due to injury, has been retained by the franchise. Namibian all-rounder David Wiese and Sri Lankan batter Bhanuka Rajapaksa are also among the overseas players retained by the Kings.
The Kings have a total of 12 confirmed players for the 2024 season and will be looking to fill the remaining five spots during the player draft in July.
The core of the Caribbean players, including Johnson Charles, Alzarri Joseph, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, and Khary Pierre, have been retained by the franchise. Fast bowlers Shadrack Descarte and McKenny Clarke round out the list of retained players.
Klaasen, who has been in impressive form in T20 cricket since 2023, will be making his second appearance in the CPL, having represented the Guyana Amazon Warriors in 2022, where he scored 118 runs in five matches. The South African batter finished as the second-highest run-getter in the recently concluded SA20 tournament and was also in top form in the IPL, scoring 479 runs in 16 games at a strike rate of 176.80.
The 2024 edition of the CPL promises to be an exciting one, and the addition of Klaasen and Noor Ahmad to the St Lucia Kings’ squad will undoubtedly bolster their chances of success in the tournament.
