Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and Nuwan Thushara Ruled Out of CPL 2024
The Sri Lankan duo of Wanindu Hasaranga and Nuwan Thushara will be unavailable for the upcoming Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 season. Both players sustained injuries during the recent white-ball series against India at home.
Slinger Thushara was forced to miss the entire series due to a finger injury, while Hasaranga featured in all three T20Is and the first ODI before being sidelined with a hamstring problem.
“In their absence, the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots will be bolstering their lineup with South African stars Anrich Nortje and Tabraiz Shamsi.”
Nortje is set to make his CPL debut, while Shamsi is a familiar face in the league, having represented the Patriots in 32 matches, including 27, in which he took 33 wickets at an economy rate of 7.06.
The duo will reunite with their fellow Proteas teammate Tristan Stubbs at the Patriots, who finished last in CPL 2023 with just one win in ten games.
The Patriots’ roster for the upcoming season also includes talents such as Kyle Mayers, Rilee Rossouw, Evin Lewis, Sherfane Rutherford, Sikandar Raza, Andre Fletcher, Dominic Drakes, Odean Smith, Joshua da Silva, and Veerasammy Permaul, among others.
As the CPL 2024 approaches, the absence of Hasaranga and Thushara will undoubtedly be felt, but the addition of Nortje and Shamsi is expected to bolster the Patriots’ chances of a stronger performance in the tournament.
