Southern Vipers Cruise to Comprehensive Victory Over South East Stars
In a dominant display, Southern Vipers secured a crucial seven-wicket bonus point victory over South East Stars in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. Former Stars fast bowler Freya Davies was the standout performer, picking up a superb four-wicket haul to skittle the visitors for a paltry 120 runs.
Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Vipers wasted no time in putting the Stars’ batting lineup under immense pressure. Davies was the chief tormentor, her impeccable pace and swing leaving the Stars’ batters in all sorts of trouble. The England international bagged three of the first four wickets, including the prized scalps of Bryony Smith, Alexa Stonehouse, and Kalea Moore, to leave the Stars reeling at 22-4.
“Freya Davies’ outstanding bowling performance and Charli Knott’s match-winning knock were the standout highlights of the Vipers’ dominant display.”
Despite a brief recovery through a 35-run partnership between Alice Davidson-Richards and Bethan Miles, the Stars’ innings faltered again as the Vipers’ spinners, led by Charli Knott, made further inroads. Knott’s smart off-breaks and Ava Lee’s economical spell helped restrict the Stars to a paltry total of 120 runs.
In the chase, the Vipers made light work of the target, led by a classy 57* from Knott. The experienced batter put on an opening stand of 46 with Ella McCaughan before Georgia Adams and Emily Windsor chipped in with useful contributions. Knott’s elegant strokeplay and calculated approach ensured the Vipers reached the target in just 23 overs, cementing their position at the top of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy table.
The result was a comprehensive victory for the defending champions, who avenged their Charlotte Edwards Cup semi-final defeat to the Stars earlier in the season.
