Southern Vipers and Central Sparks Secure Charlotte Edwards Cup Finals Day Berths

In a thrilling day of women’s domestic cricket, Southern Vipers and Central Sparks have booked their places at the Charlotte Edwards Cup Finals Day on 22 June in Derby.

Experienced England batter Charlie Dean starred for the reigning champions Vipers, hitting an unbeaten 64 off just 29 balls to guide her side to a five-wicket victory over Northern Diamonds. Meanwhile, Central Sparks’ Amy Jones (67 not out) and Abbey Freeborn (71 not out) combined for an unbroken 128-run partnership to see off Thunder by eight wickets.

“Diamonds’ Hollie Armitage celebrated her 27th birthday with a fine 69 not out, but it proved in vain as Dean’s late fireworks saw Vipers overhaul the 145-4 target.”

In the other match, 19-year-old Seren Smale’s impressive 88 not out lifted Thunder to 146-6, before the Sparks chased down the total with two balls to spare thanks to Jones and Freeborn’s heroics.

The results mean South East Stars will join Vipers, Sparks and already-qualified group leaders The Blaze at Finals Day, rounding out the four teams set to compete for the Charlotte Edwards Cup title.
