Southern Brave Edge Trent Rockets in Thrilling Hundred Encounter

In a captivating Hundred clash at the Utilita Bowl, Southern Brave emerged victorious over Trent Rockets by a narrow two-wicket margin. The win propelled Brave to a share of the top spot in the table alongside Oval Invincibles.

Chasing a modest target of 127, Brave’s innings appeared to be faltering before the explosive Kieron Pollard provided the much-needed impetus. The former West Indies captain was initially struggling, managing just 6 runs off 14 balls, but unleashed a remarkable assault on Rashid Khan, smashing five consecutive sixes in a single set. Pollard’s blistering 45 off 23 deliveries proved crucial, though he was ultimately run out, paving the way for Chris Jordan to guide Brave home with a boundary off the penultimate ball.

Earlier, Trent Rockets had posted 126/8, with Tom Banton (30 off 17) and Rovman Powell (16) providing the primary contributions. The Brave bowling attack, led by Jordan (3/22) and Jofra Archer (2/18), kept the opposition in check, despite a late charge from Lewis Gregory (19).

“I had to make a play at some point,” Pollard reflected. “I was really slow to start, but I knew I had to pick my bowler, and I’ve played against Rashid a lot. When he bowled those fuller deliveries, I was able to capitalize on them.”

In a match that featured the first-ever instance of a Hundred bowler conceding six runs off every delivery in a set, Pollard’s heroics stole the show, earning him the coveted Meerkat Match Hero award.
