Edgbaston Hosts Dramatic Encounter as Southern Brave Triumph Over Birmingham Phoenix

    Southern Brave 169 for 2 (Vince 90*, Pollard 38*, Davies 30) beat Birmingham Phoenix 137 for 9 (Duckett 92, Jordan 3-19, Hosein 3-23) by 32 runs

In a thrilling match at Edgbaston, the Southern Brave secured a convincing 32-run victory over the Birmingham Phoenix, propelling themselves to the top of the table.

Batting first, the Brave posted an impressive total of 169 for 2, with James Vince leading the charge with an unbeaten 90 off 47 balls, including six fours and six sixes. Vince and Alex Davies (30) got the visitors off to a solid start, putting on 31 in the Powerplay, before Vince and Kieron Pollard (38* off 22) took the game away from the Phoenix with a flurry of boundaries.

“It was a nice pitch, particularly up front,” Vince said after the match. “Their bowlers bowled well at the back end and it was tricky to get the ball away at the death. Chris Jordan was fantastic, and once we got into a rhythm, we squeezed them really well. It’s a fantastic group of players and people are performing at the right times.”

The Phoenix’s chase got off to a promising start as Ben Duckett raced to a 21-ball half-century, taking his side to 92 for 1 after 49 balls. However, a brilliant spell from Chris Jordan, who finished with 3 for 19, and the impressive spin duo of Akeal Hosein (3 for 23) and Tymal Mills triggered a dramatic collapse, as the Phoenix lost 6 wickets for just 12 runs in 25 balls to ultimately succumb to a 32-run defeat.

Despite Duckett’s superb 92, the rest of the Phoenix batters failed to provide any meaningful support, with the team managing just four fours between them.

The result sees the Southern Brave cement their position at the top of the table, while the Birmingham Phoenix will be looking to bounce back from this setback in their next 100-ball cricket live match.
