South East Stars Secure Convincing Victory Over Rivals The Blaze in Charlotte Edwards Cup
South East Stars 89 for 5 (Jones 30, Glenn 3-14)* beat The Blaze 84 (Glenn 21, Stonehouse 3-13) by 5 wickets
South East Stars have cemented their position as top contenders for the Charlotte Edwards Cup title after registering a commanding five-wicket victory over their rivals The Blaze at Derby.
Defending champions South East Stars put in a dominant bowling performance, restricting The Blaze to a modest total of just 84 runs. Left-arm seamer Alexa Stonehouse led the way with 3 for 13, while Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Dani Gregory, and Tilly Corteen-Coleman also chipped in with two wickets each. England’s Sarah Glenn was the top scorer for The Blaze with 21 runs off 24 deliveries.
“We put in a really strong bowling performance today and that set the tone for the rest of the match,” said South East Stars captain Bryony Smith. “I’m proud of the way the team stepped up and delivered when it mattered most.”
Despite a strong bowling display from The Blaze, with leg-spinner Sarah Glenn claiming 3 for 14, South East Stars’ Emma Jones struck an unbeaten 30 off just 25 balls to guide her team to victory with 29 balls to spare. The win puts South East Stars in a strong position to lift the Charlotte Edwards Cup for the second time.
The two teams could potentially meet again in next Saturday’s final, with both having already qualified for the semi-finals, which will be played on the same day.
