Cricket Enthusiasts Celebrate Another Strong Performance by South East Stars
South East Stars 118/4 (Scholfield 50*, Grewcock 2-18) beat Sunrisers 116/8 (Miller 39*, Jones 2-13, Stonehouse 2-17) by 6 wickets
In a convincing display, the South East Stars maintained their unbeaten streak in the Charlotte Edwards Cup by securing a comfortable 6-wicket victory over the Sunrisers at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Opting to bat first, the Sunrisers struggled to find momentum, with Emma Jones (2/13) and Alexa Stonehouse (2/17) leading the charge with the ball for the Stars. Teenage sensation Tilly Corteen-Coleman also chipped in with a wicket, as the home side was restricted to 116/8, with Flo Miller’s gutsy 39* providing the only significant resistance.
In response, the Stars’ chase was expertly orchestrated by the in-form Paige Scholfield, who continued her rich vein of form with an unbeaten 50. Sophia Dunkley and Naomi Smith also made valuable contributions, before Scholfield capped off the victory with the winning boundary, her eighth of the innings.
“The South African-born all-rounder, who is currently only able to contribute with the bat due to an ongoing injury, has now notched up her third fifty-plus score of the campaign, cementing her status as a crucial player for the Stars.”
Sunrisers captain Grace Scrivens, Emma Jones, and Jodi Grewcock all claimed wickets for the home side, but the Stars’ disciplined bowling and Scholfield’s composed innings proved too much to overcome.
The victory keeps the South East Stars firmly in the hunt for the Charlotte Edwards Cup title, as they maintain their perfect record in the tournament. Cricket enthusiasts will be eagerly anticipating the team’s future matches, particularly with the ever-reliable Paige Scholfield leading the way.
