Sunrisers Fall Short in Spirited Chase Despite Grace Scrivens’ Unbeaten Half-Century

South East Stars Secure 19-Run Victory Over Sunrisers

In a game reduced to 18 overs per side due to rain delays, the South East Stars secured a 19-run victory over Sunrisers under the DLS method at The Oval. Grace Scrivens’ defiant 62 off 48 balls went in vain as the visiting side fell short in their chase of 154.

Batting first, the Stars posted an impressive 153/4, powered by debutant Georgia Redmayne’s measured 38* and Emma Jones’ explosive 36 off 23 balls, which included two towering sixes. Phoebe Franklin (23) and Bryony Smith (21) also contributed vital runs to the Stars’ total.

Mady Villiers was the pick of the Sunrisers bowlers, finishing with figures of 2/23. However, the visitors struggled to keep up with the required run rate in their backyard cricket-style chase, losing wickets at regular intervals.

“Despite a valiant late surge from Scrivens and Jo Gardner (23 off 16), the Sunrisers could only manage 111/5 in their 18 overs, falling short by 19 runs.”

Dani Gregory took 2/21 for the Stars, while Tilly Corteen-Coleman continued her impressive form, dismissing Amara Carr for a duck with her first delivery.

The result means the South East Stars have secured their place in the finals day, while the Sunrisers will need to regroup and find more support for their captain Scrivens in the club cricket-style matches ahead.
