South Africa Opt to Bowl Against West Indies in Crucial Second T20I
With the series on the line, South African captain Aiden Markram, playing in his 50th T20I, decided to field first in the warm, sunny conditions in Trinidad.
The visitors made one change to the XI that lost the opener two days ago, benching left-arm seamer Nandre Burger, whose three overs cost 47 runs in the first match. They brought in right-arm seamer Lizaad Williams instead, while teenager Kwena Maphaka retained his place in the team after an impressive debut.
West Indies, on the other hand, stuck with the same XI from the first game, keeping experienced Obed McCoy out. Matthew Forde and Shamar Joseph will lead the pace attack as the hosts look to build on their successful chase in the opening T20I.
“South Africa will be hoping for a better start, having been reduced to 42 for 5 in the previous match. The record sixth-wicket partnership of 68 runs between Tristan Stubbs and Patrick Kruger took them to a respectable total, but West Indies chased it down with 13 balls to spare, completing the highest successful chase at this ground.”
