Scotland Set for Maiden Women’s T20 World Cup Appearance
In a historic milestone, the Scotland women’s cricket team is gearing up for their first-ever appearance at the prestigious Women’s T20 World Cup. The squad, led by captain Kathryn Bryce, qualified for the tournament after a strong showing in the qualifier event earlier this year, finishing as runners-up to Sri Lanka.
Head coach Craig Wallace expressed his confidence in the team, stating, “The make-up and balance of this squad is outstanding. We’ve got match-winners from start to finish within it, which I think is the big difference in the evolution of this squad during my short tenure. People have been putting in crucial performances each time they step onto the field, and that runs right the way through the squad.“
The 15-member Scotland squad boasts a blend of experienced players and rising talents. Thirteen of the squad members were part of the qualifier campaign, while promising off-spinner Olivia Bell and former captain Abbi Aitken-Drummond have also been included, based on their impressive performances in the recent Netherlands tri-series.
In the lead-up to the T20 World Cup, Scotland have showcased their prowess, winning 5 out of 6 matches in the Netherlands tri-series against the hosts and Papua New Guinea. “If you look at the recent Netherlands series, we won five games out of six, and there is a depth in the wider group now, proved by some of those who’ve not been selected but who’ve been pushing and performing all year,” Wallace added.
Scotland’s T20 World Cup journey will begin on October 3rd, when they take on Bangladesh in their opening fixture. The team will first head to the UAE for a pre-tournament training camp, where they will also play warm-up matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
