Scotland’s T20 World Cup Clash with England Ends in Washout
Scotland’s T20 World Cup clash against England in Barbados ended in a washout, leaving the Scottish team feeling both “confident and frustrated,” according to opening batter Michael Jones.
The match initially faced a delayed start due to a passing shower, but Jones and George Munsey quickly got Scotland off to a strong start, scoring 51 runs in the first 6.2 overs against England’s formidable bowling lineup, including the likes of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer.
However, the players were forced to leave the field once more as the rain returned. When play resumed for a shortened 10-over match, Scotland’s opening pair added another 39 runs, but Richie Berrington’s side were ultimately denied the chance to defend a revised target of 109 as the heavens opened again in Bridgetown.
“The rain beat us,” Jones lamented. “We’ve got good bowlers and we’re a good team, so it’s annoying.”
The opening batter acknowledged that the truncated game had played to Scotland’s advantage, stating, “The game was more in our favour if the game was going to be shorter. We felt confident, which is why it’s so frustrating.”
Despite the disappointment, Jones noted that had the situation been different, the Scots might have been content with a point.
“If you’d asked us before the game if we would have taken a point, we might well have taken it, but taking on England and being in that position, it’s really frustrating.”
