Scotland’s Captain Confident After Thrilling T20 World Cup Victory Over Namibia
On June 7th, 2024, NewsNamibia reported on the captains’ perspectives following Scotland’s thrilling victory over Namibia in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Scotland’s Michael Leask expressed confidence in his team’s ability to maintain their push for a Super Eights berth, despite the challenges that lie ahead against Australia.
Leask, who was part of the match-winning partnership with Richie Berrington, emphasized the depth and experience of the Scottish squad, stating:
“It’s no surprise to us [that we top the table]. This team’s got great depth. We’ve played together for a number of years, a number of us. We’ve got some new fresh blood so it doesn’t really surprise us that we’re in this position.”
Looking ahead, Leask acknowledged the importance of their upcoming fixtures against Oman and Australia, recognizing the potential for upsets in the associate game. “Those two games could put us bottom of the table,” he said, “There’s still 80 overs of cricket to play and there’s still a lot of other teams to do a lot of other things as well.”
On the other hand, Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus felt his team had enough runs but lacked intent in the field, leading to their defeat. “I thought we had enough runs,” Erasmus said, “it was a bit of an off-colour display with the ball and perhaps an almost lack of intent in the field.”
Despite the loss, Erasmus remained optimistic about Namibia’s chances in their final two group matches against England and Australia, stating, “We’ve come to play all four games evenly hard, and we’re going to play our best game against the English and the Australians.”
