Club Cricket Star Ryan Rickelton Earns Recall to South Africa Test Squad

Veteran seamers Dane Paterson and Dane Piedt have retained their places in South Africa’s Test squad for the upcoming series against the West Indies, while wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton has earned a recall.

The squad features a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talents, with David Bedingham, Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma, and Tristan Stubbs set to form the core of the batting lineup. Matthew Breetzke, who has been starring for Northants, has received his maiden Test call-up.

“This tour is extremely important for us as we aim to improve our standing in the ICC World Test Championship. We have, therefore, selected our strongest possible squad and look forward to strong performances in the Caribbean.”

    • Test coach Shukri Conrad

Paterson and Piedt, both in their mid-30s, have been included to provide valuable experience and a second spin option alongside Keshav Maharaj, with Marco Jansen and Anrich Nortje unavailable for the tour.

Rickelton, who last featured in Tests during South Africa’s home series against the West Indies in March, will compete with incumbent wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne for the number six spot. The only seam-bowling all-rounder in the squad is Wiaan Mulder.

The first Test between South Africa and the West Indies will take place in Trinidad from August 7, followed by the second match in Guyana a week later.
