Ricky Ponting Predicts Top Performers at 2024 T20 World Cup
Cricket legend Ricky Ponting has shared his forecasts for the leading wicket-taker and run-scorer at the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2024. The tournament is set to take place across the West Indies and the United States next year.
Bowling Prediction
For the bowling category, Ponting has tipped Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah to emerge as the top wicket-taker. Bumrah is coming off an outstanding Indian Premier League (IPL) season, where he claimed 20 wickets at an exceptional economy rate of just 6.48 runs per over. As Ponting stated, “Jasprit Bumrah will be my leading wicket-taker for the tournament. He’s an outstanding performer who has contributed consistently over the years. His ability to swing the new ball, maintain a tight seam position, and excel at the death overs makes him a formidable threat.“
Batting Prediction
On the batting front, Ponting has backed compatriot Travis Head to finish as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. Head recently showcased his explosive batting prowess at the 2023 Cricket World Cup, scoring two centuries and a half-century while averaging over 50 with a strike rate of 127.52. Ponting praised Head’s “fearless cricket” and the impact he has had for his teams in both red-ball and white-ball formats. As Ponting noted, “When Travis Head spends time at the crease, he tends to win more games than not.
