Canada’s innings was highlighted by a powerful 52-run knock from Aaron Johnson, who smashed four sixes – the joint-most by any player on this ground. However, Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Mohammad Amir’s 2-13 and Haris Rauf’s 2-26, managed to restrict Canada to a total of 106-7.
“This was a crucial match for us, and I’m proud of the way the team fought back and secured the victory,” said Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam.
In response, Pakistan’s opening pair of Muhammad Rizwan and Babar Azam laid the foundation with a 63-run stand for the second wicket. Babar Azam was dismissed for 33, but Rizwan remained unbeaten on a steady 53 off 53 balls, guiding Pakistan to victory with 15 balls to spare.
Usman Khan sealed the win for Pakistan, who now must beat Ireland in their final group match in Florida and hope for favorable results elsewhere to secure a spot in the Super 8s.
Despite the loss, Canada still have a mathematical chance of qualifying for the next round, but they will need to pull off a major upset and defeat India in their final pool game.
