Pakistan’s Seven-Wicket Victory over Canada Lights Up T20 World Cup

New York, October 23 – In a strong all-round display, Pakistan secured their first win of the T20 World Cup, defeating Canada by seven wickets in New York. The victory was built on the back of impressive bowling performances, with Dilon Heyliger’s 2 for 18 and Aaron Johnson’s crucial 44-ball 52 leading the way for the Canadian side.

Opting to field first, Pakistan’s fast bowlers combined to restrict Canada to 106 for 7 in their 20 overs. Despite Johnson’s quick-fire innings, the Canadian total was deemed challenging given the sluggish nature of the New York pitch. In response, Pakistan stumbled early, but a 63-run stand between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan steadied the ship. Rizwan’s unbeaten 53 off 53 balls ultimately guided the team to victory with 15 balls to spare.

“The match saw some noteworthy individual efforts, with Johnson’s aggressive knock and Heyliger’s tidy spell standing out from a Canadian perspective. Pakistan, on the other hand, will be pleased with the overall team performance, which has kept their qualification hopes alive in the competitive Group D.”
