Oval Invincibles Cruise to Comfortable Seven-Wicket Win Over Manchester Originals in The Hundred

Invincibles Bounce Back with Convincing Victory

Oval Invincibles returned to winning ways with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Manchester Originals in the Women’s Hundred at Emirates Old Trafford. An unbeaten 67-run partnership between Paige Scholfield and Marizanne Kapp from just 37 balls guided the visitors to their target of 126 with seven balls to spare.

“We’ve had a couple of tough games in a row, but you learn more from losing than winning. We went away and studied what was going on, and I think we were more disciplined today.” – Paige Scholfield, Meerkat Match Hero

    Invincibles’ Bowlers and Fielders Shine

After the hosts posted a modest 125 for 4, thanks to a solid 38-run knock from Laura Wolvaardt, Invincibles’ opening duo of Chamari Athapaththu and Lauren Winfield-Hill got their side off to a strong start, putting on 48 runs for the first wicket. Despite the quick dismissals of Winfield-Hill and Alice Capsey, in-form Scholfield ensured there were no further hiccups, smashing an unbeaten 48 from just 27 deliveries, including seven boundaries. Kapp provided valuable support with 19 runs from 11 balls as the visitors cruised to victory.

    Originals Struggle to Build Momentum

Earlier, the Originals struggled to build momentum after a slow start, with the Australian pair of Mooney and Wolvaardt managing to find the boundary on seven occasions in a span of 15 deliveries. However, the dismissals of Mooney and Wolvaardt slowed the hosts’ progress, before captain Sophie Ecclestone’s late surge helped them post a competitive total.

Invincibles’ bowling attack, led by the impressive Australian leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington (2/22), put in a disciplined performance, supported by a host of sharp catches in the field. The win sees the Oval-based franchise move up to second place on the points table, bouncing back from their previous two-game winless run.
