Nottinghamshire Sign Rising Offspinner Farhan Ahmed to Senior Contract
Nottinghamshire have signed England Under-19 offspinner Farhan Ahmed, the younger brother of 18-year-old England Test debutant Rehan Ahmed, to a three-and-a-half-year senior contract with the county. The 16-year-old Farhan, who impressed during January’s ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, has progressed through Nottinghamshire’s academy ranks and joins the club’s professional playing staff.
“There is no doubt that this is an exciting time for Farhan and the club,” said Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores. “He is a player with bags of talent and a high ceiling in the game. He’s a grounded individual, though, and he knows the work starts now for him to fulfil that potential in the years ahead.”
Farhan, who joined Nottinghamshire’s academy in 2022 after taking 86 wickets in 57 games for the county’s Under-18 side, expressed his delight at signing his first senior contract with his hometown club. “I’m obviously very happy and excited to have signed this contract – it is something I’ve been working towards since I started playing cricket. For it to be for my home county is a dream come true, too.”
Eager to Make an Impact at the Senior Level
The rising offspinner, who made his mark on the global stage during the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa earlier this year, is eager to make the most of his opportunities at the senior level. “I’ve seen other players make that step from the Academy onto the pro staff then play first-team cricket, which gives me confidence that I can do the same in the years ahead,” Farhan said.
Matt Wood, Nottinghamshire’s Elite Pathway Manager, lauded Farhan’s development and maturity, stating, “He is a clever bowler – he’s very mature in that sense – and his trajectory over the last couple of years has been exceptional.”
The signing of the 16-year-old Farhan Ahmed, fresh off his standout performance at the 100-ball cricket live Under-19 World Cup, represents an exciting investment in Nottinghamshire’s club cricket future.
