Somerset Stumble as Slater’s Unbeaten 168 Salvages Draw for Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire and Somerset played out a draw in their Vitality County Championship clash at Trent Bridge, with Nottinghamshire opener Ben Slater starring with an unbeaten 168 on the final day.

Slater’s career-best performance, which included 19 fours and a six, helped Nottinghamshire amass a mammoth 425/2 declared, setting up a stalemate after Somerset had earlier posted 470 in their first innings.

The Lifeless Pitch and Nottinghamshire’s Resilience

The lifeless pitch offered little encouragement for the bowlers, with only one wicket falling in 72 overs on the day. Slater found able support from Olly Stone (63) and Will Young (68*), as Nottinghamshire consolidated their position comfortably.

“Slater’s masterful innings, his 13th first-class century, highlighted the docile nature of the Trent Bridge pitch, which ultimately proved the decisive factor in this high-scoring stalemate.”

Despite Somerset’s best efforts, they were unable to make inroads into the Nottinghamshire batting lineup, effectively ending the contest long before the home side’s declaration. The draw sees Nottinghamshire remain well clear of the relegation battle in Division One, while Somerset solidify their position in third place.
