Nottinghamshire Outlaws Bounce Back with Vital Victory over Derbyshire Falcons in Vitality Blast

After a nightmare start to their Blast campaign, the Nottinghamshire Outlaws bounced back with a crucial eight-run victory over the Derbyshire Falcons to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.

Opener Joe Clarke top-scored for the Outlaws with a 28-ball 47, supported by useful contributions from Tom Moores (31 off 27) and Matt Montgomery (28* off 31) to post a competitive total of 173 for 5. Derbyshire skipper Samit Patel was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 for 24.

“The victory sees the Outlaws climb off the bottom of the North Group table for the first time, although they still have an uphill task to reach the quarter-finals after losing their first five matches. However, the win keeps their slim hopes alive.”

In response, Aneurin Donald’s explosive 52 off 26 balls gave the Falcons a strong start in their chase, but the Outlaws’ bowlers fought back, led by New Zealand left-arm seamer Ben Lister’s 2 for 24. Despite a steady knock of 40 from veteran Wayne Madsen, the Falcons fell short, finishing on 165 for 8.
