Oval Invincibles Suffer Defeat on Home Turf After Collapsing in 146-Run Chase
Northern Superchargers secured back-to-back victories in the 100-ball cricket competition, defeating the reigning champions Oval Invincibles by 19 runs at the Kia Oval.
In front of a packed crowd of 24,160 fans, the Superchargers’ hard-hitting batsman Nicholas Pooran led the way with a blistering 65 off just 41 balls, including four massive sixes. His impressive innings helped the visitors post a competitive total of 145/5 from their 100 deliveries.
Despite a spirited 49-run knock by Donovan Ferreira, the Invincibles struggled to gain any momentum in their run chase and were eventually restricted to 126/9. The Superchargers’ bowling unit, led by the likes of Jordan Clark, Dillon Pennington, and Matthew Potts, were instrumental in keeping the home team’s batters in check.
“For me, it’s about being consistent with my mindset and playing the situation of the game,” said Pooran, who was named the Meerkat Match Hero.
This result marks the end of the unbeaten runs for both the Oval Invincibles men’s and women’s teams, leaving the respective competitions wide open. The Superchargers, meanwhile, will look to continue their momentum when they return to their home ground of Headingley on Sunday.
