Birmingham Phoenix Women Spun Out for Lowest Total in The Hundred Competition
Birmingham, [Current Date]: In a dominant display, Northern Superchargers Women secured a 61-run victory over Birmingham Phoenix Women in a crucial match in the ECB’s The Hundred competition.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Superchargers posted a competitive total of 115/5, with Katie Davidson-Richards top-scoring with an unbeaten 49 off 42 balls. The Phoenix’s Ellyse Perry was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 2/13.
“I didn’t actually feel that good out there when I was batting, it was a difficult pitch to bat on, as you can see from it being such a low-scoring game, but we are delighted to have got over the line,” she said. “I was trying to work out how to build an innings and find the gaps where the boundaries could come from.”
In response, the home side Birmingham Phoenix struggled from the outset, crumbling to 54 all out, which is the lowest score ever recorded in the women’s edition of The Hundred. Linsey Smith and Georgia Wareham were the standout bowlers for Superchargers, both picking up 3/12.
The win sees Northern Superchargers climb up to second place in the league table, level on points with leaders Oval Invincibles. Speaking after the match, Player of the Match Davidson-Richards acknowledged the challenging nature of the pitch but expressed delight at her side’s performance.
The Superchargers will now turn their attention to their next match, a crucial top-of-the-table clash against Welsh Fire away from home.
