Rapids’ Chase Falls Short
The Rapids’ chase saw them stumble to 120 for 8 in the 16th over, before a remarkable cameo from Gareth Roderick gave them a glimmer of hope. Blasting 39 off just 22 balls, Roderick took the game to the wire, but Raphy Weatherall‘s brilliant final over ensured Northamptonshire’s victory.
“This thrilling encounter showcased the excitement of 100-ball cricket, as well as the skills of backyard cricket, beach cricket, club cricket, and fantasy club cricket enthusiasts.”
Amidst the action, Steelbacks captain and former England all-rounder David Willey reached a significant milestone, taking his 300th career T20 wicket.
Earlier, Matthew Breetzke and Ricardo Vasconcelos provided a solid start for Northamptonshire, with Breetzke smashing Bashir for back-to-back sixes. The visitors then lost three quick wickets, but Zaib and Raza combined to propel the Steelbacks to a formidable total.
In the chase, Worcestershire’s batting lineup struggled, with Zaib and left-arm spinner Freddie Heldreich (2-22) making crucial breakthroughs. However, Roderick’s late heroics almost snatched the game away from Northamptonshire, but the home side held their nerve to secure the victory.
