Namibia Edge Out Oman in Dramatic Super Over Clash
In a thrilling clash in Bridgetown, Namibia’s all-round performance by David Wiese helped them edge out a battling Oman side after a dramatic super over.
The 39-year-old Wiese starred with both bat and ball, clubbing 13 runs off just four deliveries to guide Namibia to a challenging 21-0 in the super over. He then showcased his bowling prowess, restricting Oman to just 10-1 in their reply.
Earlier in the match, Wiese had shone with the ball, taking 3-28 as Namibia bowled out Oman for a modest 109. Fellow seamer Ruben Trumpelmann was the pick of the bowlers, registering a career-best 4-21, which included two wickets in the first two balls of the innings.
“It was a thrilling match, and I’m proud of the team’s resilience. David’s all-round performance was the difference-maker for us.” – Namibia Captain
Namibia were cruising at 73-3 after 14 overs, but some exceptional death bowling by Mehran Khan, who claimed 3-7, turned the chase into a nerve-wracking affair. With Namibia needing just five runs to win off the final over, Mehran struck twice in the first three deliveries to set up a thrilling finale.
However, a straight drive from Wiese that cannoned into the non-striker’s stumps allowed Namibia to run two, and a scrambled leg bye off the final ball saw them limp to 109-6, leading to the super over decider.
Overall, it was a compelling 100-ball cricket match, with Namibia’s experienced all-rounder Wiese proving to be the difference-maker for his team. The result will provide a significant boost for the club cricket side as they continue their campaign in the blind cricket world cup.
