Veteran UAE Batter Muhammad Usman Retires from International Cricket
On June 28, 2024, veteran UAE batter Muhammad Usman announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a six-year career that spanned 85 appearances across ODIs and T20Is. The left-handed middle-order player, born in Lahore, represented the UAE national team from 2016 to 2022.
Usman made his T20I debut against the Netherlands in February 2016, followed by his ODI bow against Scotland a few months later. Over the course of his international career, he amassed 1008 runs at an average of 31.50 in 38 ODIs, including a century and four half-centuries. In 47 T20Is, he scored 891 runs with three fifties to his name. Notably, Usman was part of the UAE squad that competed in the 2016 Asia Cup, where he top-scored for the team with 176 runs in seven matches.
Domestic Career Highlights
In domestic cricket, the 38-year-old featured in five first-class and 58 List-A matches, accumulating 1517 runs at an average of 34.47, with a century and nine half-centuries to his name.
“It has been an incredible journey with the UAE cricket team and the cricket board,” he said in a press release. “I would like to thank everyone who played a role in my journey, including my teammates, coaches, and other support staff. I feel blessed and proud that I got the opportunity of representing UAE for 85 international matches.”
