Phil Salt’s Blistering Fifty and Fazalhaq Farooqi’s Heroics Seal Victory for Manchester Originals at Lord’s

    Manchester Originals 135 for 5 (Salt 58) defeated London Spirit 123 for 5 (Jennings 61, Hetmyer 44, Farooqi 3-24)* by 12 runs

In a thrilling encounter at Lord’s, Manchester Originals secured their first win of The Hundred against London Spirit, thanks to outstanding performances from Phil Salt and Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Opener Phil Salt anchored the Originals’ innings with a blistering 58 off 41 balls, which included four fours and two sixes. His knock helped the visitors post a competitive total of 135 for 5.

“The results haven’t gone our way. We’re on a mission now to be the party spoilers, and with the luck we’ve had in the competition so far, I think that’s a role we’re going to enjoy,” said Phil Salt after the match.

Despite being dropped twice, Keaton Jennings fought hard for London Spirit, scoring an unbeaten 61 off 50 balls. However, the real star of the show for the Originals was Fazalhaq Farooqi, who claimed 3 for 24 from his 20 deliveries to restrict the home side to 123 for 5.

Farooqi’s dismissals of Michael Pepper, Ollie Pope, and a direct-hit run-out of Dan Lawrence put the Originals in control. Although Jennings and Shimron Hetmyer (44 off 35 balls) added 96 runs for the fourth wicket, the late wickets of Hetmyer and Andre Russell ensured Manchester Originals secured a 12-run victory.

This result officially ended London Spirit’s campaign, as they failed to reach the knockout phase, joining the already eliminated Originals at the bottom of the table.
