Lancashire Dominate Kent with Record-Breaking Partnership in County Championship

Bohannon and Wells Shine in Dominant Display

In a scintillating display of run-scoring, Lancashire’s Josh Bohannon and Luke Wells put on a record stand of 312 runs against Kent on day two of their Vitality County Championship clash at Canterbury. Bohannon’s unbeaten 182 and Wells’ 150 powered Lancashire to a commanding 402 for 4, giving them a 158-run first-innings lead.

The visitors batted through two full sessions without losing a wicket, pummeling Kent’s bowling attack.

    Visitors Take Firm Control

Resuming on 38 for 1, Lancashire’s Wells and Bohannon were rarely troubled, with the closest Kent came to a wicket being a miscued shot by Wells that was dropped. Matt Parkinson, Kent’s international-class bowler, was not introduced until the final over of the morning session, by which time the visitors had already taken firm control.

The two Lancashire batters engaged in a race to their respective centuries, with Bohannon emerging victorious by cutting George Garrett for four. Wells reached his hundred in less convincing fashion, but the pair soon overtook the previous record partnership between these two sides, set by Rob Key and Ed Smith in 2004.

    Lancashire Dominate Proceedings

The afternoon session saw the Lancashire duo continue their onslaught, reaching 305 for 1 at tea. The exhausted Kent supporters in the marquee even removed their blazers as the heat and the relentless scoring took its toll. The evening session brought some respite for the hosts, as Wells was dismissed for 150 and George Bell and George Lavelle also fell in quick succession.

However, Bohannon remained unbeaten on 182, and with Matty Hurst for company, Lancashire closed the day in a dominant position, leaving Kent with plenty to ponder ahead of the third day’s play.
