Khettarama Pitch Expected to Favor Spinners, but Rain Could Disrupt Second ODI
The second ODI between Sri Lanka and India is set to take place at the spin-friendly Khettarama Cricket Stadium in Colombo, with the hosts hoping to build on their spirited comeback in the first match. However, the prospect of scattered showers throughout the day could play a role in the outcome.
The first ODI produced a classic encounter, showcasing the enduring appeal of the format. Despite Sri Lanka’s three consecutive batting collapses in the preceding T20I series, they fought back from 101 for 5 to secure a thrilling tie, with spin playing a pivotal role.
Washington Sundar was the most expensive of India’s three main spinners in the opener, but the Khettarama pitch is expected to once again provide ample grip and turn, potentially narrowing the gap between the two teams. Sri Lanka may consider bringing in Chamika Karunaratne to bolster their batting, though it seems unlikely they would leave out a young fast bowler after just one game.
India, on the other hand, could opt to rest Mohammed Siraj, who has featured in all three T20Is and the first ODI, and hand an opportunity to Khaleel Ahmed or Harshit Rana in the pace attack.
“The series has already provided plenty of drama, and with the prospect of rain adding an element of uncertainty, the second ODI promises to be another closely contested affair.”
Spin is expected to play a significant role, with the Khettarama pitch historically favoring slow bowlers. However, the weather conditions could well disrupt the proceedings, making for an intriguing and unpredictable encounter.
