Jos Buttler Shines as England Thrash West Indies in T20 Series
Explosive England captain Jos Buttler blasted his way into the top six of Twenty20 international run scorers, helping his team cruise to a seven-wicket victory over West Indies. Buttler’s blistering 83 off just 45 balls powered England to a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Arriving at the crease for the second ball of the chase, the 34-year-old batsman simply dominated the Windies attack, sharing a 129-run stand with Will Jacks, who contributed 38. Buttler’s innings included six massive sixes, one of which landed on the top of the Three Ws stand and bounced out of the ground.
“We weren’t under huge pressure with the run-rate, and Jacksy got a few away which was great at the time when I was batting pretty slowly,” Buttler said. “It took the pressure off me. I wasn’t expecting to come out and middle it from ball one but I thought after 10 or 12 balls, I started to see it much better.”
The big-hitting masterclass under the lights at the Kensington Oval helped Buttler surpass the likes of Australian David Warner and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan in the format’s most prolific batsmen list. After being dismissed for a golden duck in his previous outing, Buttler was determined to make amends, unleashing a barrage of powerful strokes that left the Windies bowlers in disarray.
England’s Clinical Performance
England’s clinical performance with both bat and ball saw them limit the hosts to 158/8, with Warwickshire off-spinner Dan Mousley claiming his first two international wickets. Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood also impressed with the ball, making the most of the helpful bowling conditions.
Buttler’s dominant display ensured England chased down the target with 5.1 overs to spare, putting them in a commanding position in the series. The visitors will now head to St Lucia, having overtaken West Indies in the rankings with this impressive weekend double in Bridgetown.
