England Captain Jos Buttler Vows to Review Team’s Performance After T20 World Cup Exit
Following England’s semi-final defeat at the T20 World Cup, captain Jos Buttler has promised a comprehensive review of the team’s performance and preparations for upcoming tournaments.
The defending champions were soundly beaten by India, bowled out for just 103 runs as they slumped to a 68-run loss in Guyana. This marks the second world title the English have surrendered in the past eight months, after the disappointment of their 50-over World Cup defense last year.
“You take some time to review tournaments and try to plan ahead for the next tournaments,” said Buttler. “We have to review what we need to do better as a team, if that is the way we play, personnel, style of cricket. We will review everything and come up with a plan.”
Buttler, who replaced Eoin Morgan as white-ball captain in 2022 and led England to T20 World Cup glory in Australia later that year, suggested he hopes to remain in the role until the Champions Trophy in Pakistan next February. However, the 32-year-old insisted he is not looking too far ahead, focusing instead on dissecting this latest setback.
“I am not thinking too far ahead to be honest and reflecting on the loss today, trying to review that. I haven’t thought past today,” Buttler concluded.
