Jofra Archer is all smiles as he sets his sights on defeating Australia on Sunday, weather permitting, to secure a comeback series victory. The 29-year-old fast bowler is using the ongoing five-match Metro Bank campaign as a crucial step in his rehabilitation program towards a Test return, having endured three years of injury setbacks.
After playing a pivotal role in England’s dramatic victory at Lord’s on Friday, which leveled the series at 2-2, Archer is eager for the weather to clear in Bristol on Sunday. Despite the England medical team’s initial plan to field him in the first, third, and fifth matches, Archer, buoyed by his 10-over performance in Durham, requested to play at the scene of the 2019 World Cup final success.
“We had to win to keep the series alive, and that in itself made it a bit special,” he remarked.
With Sunday’s match described as a “kind of a final,” Archer was determined not to miss the opportunity at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Archer’s return has coincided with a marked improvement in England’s batting performance, particularly the change in tempo by Harry Brook. The stand-in captain’s 58-ball 87 at Lord’s and his maiden one-day hundred at Chester-le-Street have been instrumental in turning the series around. With the batting lineup finding its rhythm, players like Liam Livingstone have been able to capitalize late in the innings, leaving the Australians in need of a miracle.
