Marquee Names Headline IPL 2025 Auction

As the cricketing world gears up for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, the list of 12 marquee players has been revealed. Among the notable names are Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul โ€“ the three captains who were recently released by their franchises.

The auction will feature a total of 574 players, with 366 Indians and 208 overseas talents. Notably absent from the shortlist is England’s Jofra Archer, who was previously signed by Mumbai Indians (MI) but failed to feature in any games due to injury.

However, the list does include the veteran English pacer James Anderson, who has expressed interest in joining the global franchise circuit after retiring from Test cricket. The 42-year-old will be the oldest player at the auction, with a base price of INR 1.25 crore.

At the other end of the spectrum, the youngest participant is the 13-year-old left-handed batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has already played five first-class matches for Bihar and three Youth Test matches for India Under-19s.

“The auction will see a new dynamic, with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) having retained the maximum of six players each, and thus not being able to use any right-to-match (RTM) cards. Other franchises will have varying numbers of RTM options at their disposal.”

Another teenager to watch out for is the Sri Lankan Under-19 fast bowler Dumindu Sewmina, whose low, slingy action has caught the eye. He will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow Lasith Malinga clones Matheesha Pathirana and Nuwan Thushara into the IPL.
