India Secure Semifinal Berth with Dominant T20 World Cup Win over Bangladesh

On June 22, 2024, India secured a convincing 50-run victory against Bangladesh, maintaining their unbeaten streak in the T20 World Cup 2024 and securing a semifinal berth. Indian captain Rohit Sharma was pleased with his team’s aggressive batting approach, which he believes is the way forward for the squad.

“I’ve been talking about that for a long time,” Rohit said after the match. “It’s just about going there and putting it to work knowing what is expected out of us, what we need to do and how we need to play.”

India posted a formidable total of 196 runs, with Hardik Pandya’s unbeaten 50 off 27 balls being the highest individual score. Virat Kohli (37 off 28) and Rishabh Pant (36 off 24) also contributed to the team’s strong performance.

Anil Kumble, the former India captain and head coach, praised the team’s intent-driven batting approach. “You want batters to come in and take on the bowlers,” Kumble said. “This is a format where you can’t come in, sit back, and allow good bowlers to bowl their four overs. You need to show intent and take the bowlers on, so it was pleasing from a batting perspective.”

Kumble also highlighted how the inclusion of an extra batter at No. 8, Ravindra Jadeja, has empowered the top order to play with more freedom. “Jadeja is eight, that gives you a bit more freedom for the batters to show the intent they’ve shown,” he said.

Hardik Pandya’s impressive all-round performance was a key factor in India’s victory. Rohit praised Hardik’s contributions, saying, “Today was a perfect example of what he can do with the bat. He’s a very important player for us. If he can keep doing that, we will be in good positions.”
